We are a diverse and inclusive school with a values-led curriculum, where children come first.
This means we want every child at Powell Corderoy to feel welcome, to feel valued, to feel seen, heard and listened to, to feel their needs are met and to feel they belong and contribute to our school community. In doing so, they will develop the confidence to pursue their goals, to strive for excellence and to face challenges with resilience.
Our shared values are what unite us.
We use them to guide our attitudes and behaviours as we live and learn together. The Powell Corderoy School values, which we promote alongside the broader British Values, are:
Courage
Friendship
Appreciation
Perseverance
Compassion
Responsibility
British Values
All schools are required to promote the fundamental British Values:
- Democracy
- The rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect
- Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
At Powell Corderoy, these are evident in our ethos and explicitly taught through our school values, assemblies and PSHE / Citizenship curriculum.
Underpinning these is a growth mindset approach which values effort, personal development and progress. This enables us to equip children with the skills and attitudes they need to become life-long learners.
Growth mindset describes a way of viewing challenges and setbacks. People who have a growth mindset believe that even if they struggle with certain skills, their abilities aren't set in stone. They think that with work, their skills can improve over time.
